Arranged by Grade Level and Age Range
For this project I worked with members (past and present) of the Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory (GRCO), and STEM educators to gather different topics and lessons appropriate for each age group. The staff of the GRCO have been providing astronomy education and STEM outreach to the Gilbert, Arizona and surrounding communities for almost 25 years. While some of the links for younger kids made need to be looked at with an Adult who might be able to explain things easier for their kids to fully understand, there are still resources listed appropriate for each age and grade level.
There are a total of 90 different activity levels for three main age groups (K-4, 5-8, and 9-12), with different types of activities for individual projects, group settings, or for outdoor events. I’ve had some of these activities tested and have been given feedback as to what different kids are interested in. The topics and lesson ideas provided should be thought of as building blocks to gain the basic understanding as you start exploring the world of astronomy and STEM. This curriculum can be used for all settings. If your using this for a class, troop event, family activities, or for individual use, there is something to look at and enjoy. I spent over 80 hours researching and curating all these resources, and working with my team to figure out how to keep kids engaged and cater to all learning types.
